Hayley Freimuth is a graduate of Cooley Law School and works for Navitus Health Solutions

As a law student Hayley was not thinking of going into the health career field. When she graduated from law school she knew the state that she wanted to work in and applied for many opportunities. She found that Navitus was looking for a paralegal and took a chance and applied. At first Navitus Health Solutions wanted to clarify that in fact she was interested in a paralegal position as she held a JD. Hayley had a great response which was "I know you are growing and you will need more lawyers as you grow."

As she was asked to come in for an interview she did her research and found that by knowing the background of the employer it ended up opening up great opportunities for her in the end.

As you can see her interview was positive and she was offered a position and soon after starting she was given the opportunity to move from a paralegal to a lawyer.

Since starting at Navitus Health Solutions she has found that the health field is wide open with opportunities and so many things that you can do within the field. Hayley made it very clear that any of you that might be considering the health field should not feel that not having a previous background in the area should deter you to considering the industry.

If you are thinking of the field of Health Care Law, some things that Hayley mentioned that you should consider:

  • Take the time to learn HIPAA
  • Take the time to learn the Affordable Care Act
  • Immerse yourself in the myriad of health care law that is available.

In thinking back to her own law school experience, Hayley mentioned that there were a few things that she wished that she would have done including:

  • Taking research and writing as a course within her first year in law school.

When considering about what she would recommend other people to consider when they look at law school she shared that she would look for a law school that provided practical legal components. As she stated " I did not
